Since the start of the year, an estimated 800 men have come forward to allege they were sexually abused as children while participating in Boy Scouts of America.
The news was recently announced at a conference, only one day after attorney Stewart Eisenberg, the founder of Eisenberg Winkler Jeck Schwartz Schoenhaus & Sherry, P.C., and a second attorney filed a lawsuit in Philadelphia on behalf of a 57-year-old man. According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the man stated he was 12 years old when a troop leader started sexually abusing him.
At the National Press Club, Stewart said, “there is a crisis in the Boy Scouts.” The potential victim count is staggering. Boy Scouts of America is facing numerous accusations involving child sexual abuse. Attorney Stewart Eisenberg and other lawyers attending the news conference formed the Abused in Scouting group. This group was formed to encourage Boy Scout of America victims to come forward and file civil claims against the parties responsible for their abuse. In an interview with the Inquirer, Eisenberg stated that there may be more lawsuits coming.
